Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical, cosmetic tattoo that gives the illusion of hair on a bald head or density to a thinning crown. The procedure can also be used to conceal scars.

It all depends on the extent and cause(s) of your hair loss and what you want the final outcome to look like. The process consists of several treatment sessions and usually takes up to 4-5 weeks in total.

Results can last for years, depending on lifestyle and immune system. Most clients like to have a top-up session every 2 or 3 years just to refresh the definition.

Every client is different. Some report no discomfort at all and have been known to doze off during the procedure, whilst others experience moderate irritation, normally towards the end of their sessions. We recommend taking a paracetamol or codeine based medicine 20 minutes before the start of your session.

We advise clients to have eaten well and feel in good health on the day of their treatment.

Unlike tattooing, SMP does not go further than the second layer of the skin and the shade of the pigment will not turn a blue or green colour, as can often happen with traditional tattooing.

it is generally recommended that SMP is done before a transplant. However, if you have an existing hair transplant we recommend waiting 12 months before undergoing treatment.
